Stryker V40 Taper Lock Failure – Hip Implants

A hip replacement involves multiple components.  There are competing manufacturers and designs of hip replacement devices.  One of these designs is a taper lock system that connects the femoral head and femoral neck.

Nature of the Potential Claim

In patients where this system has been implanted, there is complaints of corrosion of the metal hip components resulting in metallic ions going into the blood stream of patients.  At at certain level, these ions may result in metal poisoning or metallosis.

In addition to the risk of metal poisoning, patients may suffer:

  • Severe pain and mobility issues
  • Periprosthetic fracture
  • Infection
  • Dislocation
  • Need for revision surgery
